With Ax 2009, SRSS reports are now integrated in the Ax AOT, and modifyable using the new Visual Studio Dynamics project. It works, but it's not the most pleasant experience I've had.
 
After an afternoon of fooling around with a report on the Production Manager role center, I can safely say that I am able to modify reports through Visual Studio with relative ease, as long as they use the standard DynamicsAx datasource. Up until now, I have been absolutely unable to test, run or modify any reports using the DynamicsAxOLAP datasource. I don’t know whether I’m missing an SQL component or if I screwed up my installation.
 
My impression on using Visual Studio for reporting is that it’s pretty easy to learn if you know the basics of C# and if you have experience using the Ax Business Connector. But that’s only true if your installation works. And installation is a pain because this Visual Studio reporting stuff depends on so many technologies. I haven't been able to get any reports properly running on my Enterprise Portal, though about half of them work peachy though the Visual Studio 'preview' function. The determining factor on whether it works at all is the datasource, DynamicsAxOLAP just doesn't want to work for me.
 
If you really want to have fun, lookup the CustAgingReport that MS did through SSRS... they put in a lot of time on this new framework and I definitely get the feeling that Morphx has one foot in the grave.
