atinkerersnotebook: Walkthrough & Tutorial Summary
Источник: http://atinkerersnotebook.com/2013/0...ial-summary-2/
============== Over the past couple of years, I have made a number of walkthroughs and tutorials that are focused on or around Dynamics AX. All of these have been posted to my SlideShare account, but sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees because there are quite a few of them out there. To make it easier to review the content and also to see what topics I have posted out there, I sat down and organized them into the following summary. First I have listed all of the presentations out and started to classify them with key words to help you filter out the content that you are interested in, and in the second section I have given blurb on the presentations. The problem is that the default Role Center in Dynamics AX 2012 is missing the Cues web part. This is not a big problem though. In this worked example we will show you how to add the Cues to the Role Center and then populate it with queried.</p> Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...12-role-center Keywords: #DynamicsAX 2 Adding New Fields to Forms Although there is a lot of standard fields within Dynamics AX, sometimes there are fields that you need just for your installation. In this worked example we will show how to create a new field, add it to the database, and then update the form definitions so that you will be able to maintain the new field… all without writing a single line of code. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...-ax-2012-forms Keywords: #DynamicsAX 3 Simplifying Dynamics AX User Navigation & Menus Not many people need access to all of the functionality that is available within Dynamics AX. Don’t worry though, with a couple of simple tweaks, you can easily trim down the menu’s and forms to see just what you want. In this worked example we will show you how you can hide unneeded modules, create favorites links to the data that you use all of the time, and also personalize the forms so that you don’t see the fields that you don’t need for your day to day job. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...vigation-menus Keywords: #Navigation #DynamicsAX 4 Creating New Products In Dynamics AX Using Templates When setting up new products, there is a little bit of information that needs to be configured in order to make it work. After you have created the fist product though, every product from then on will probably be just a variation. In this walkthrough we will show how you can turn an existing product into a template and quickly create new product definitions, with just a handful of clicks – taking all of the repetition out of setting up your product definitions. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...sing-templates Keywords: #DynamicsAX 5 Adding Summary Fields to Dynamics AX Fast Tabs In Dynamics AX 2012, the forms have been re-arranged with the introduction of Fast Tabs. These allow you to see all of the information relating to the records in one form rather than having to step through the traditional style tabs to find the data that you are looking for. The Fast Tabs have an additional feature that allow you to show summary information in the title line so that you can easily see key fields when the tabs are collapsed. In this example we will show how you can personalize the Fast Tabs to show additional information that you may be interested in – all without a single line of code. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...2012-fast-tabs Keywords: #DynamicsAX 6 Enabling Purchase Requisition Workflows in Dynamics AX Dynamics AX 2012 has an upgraded workflow designer interface, and a whole slew of workflow triggers that you can take advantage of. In this worked example we will show you how you can take advantage of the workflow tools to create a custom approval process for purchase requisition submission. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Workflow 7 Requisitioning from the Dynamics AX Employee Self Service Portal The Employee Services portal is a great way to give casual users access to Dynamics AX 2012 without having to install the full AX client on their desktop. From all accounts the Employee Services portal in AX2012 is a lot nicer than the one that was delivered with AX2009 as well. In this example we will show how you can use the Employee Services portal to create a purchase requisition within Dynamics AX 2012. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...service-portal Keywords: #DynamicsAX 8 Creating and Consuming Dynamics AX Web Services In Excel There are a whole slew of web services available in Dynamics AX 2012, but how do you use them? In this example we will show how you can publish the web services so that you can use them in an application, and also show an example of the web services in action by using them to create a simple sales order import routine from Excel. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...-2012-15786563 Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Excel 9 Creating Custom Workflows in Dynamics AX Dynamics AX 2012 has a whole slew of workflow initiators built in, but what if you want more of your own. In this worked example we will show how you can create your own workflow definitions within Dynamics so that you can extend the existing and custom forms that you have in your system. We will create a new table, and form to initiate the workflow, associate all of the workflow code to the form, and then attach a workflow. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Workflow 10 Tweaking the Dynamics AX Cube Structures The standard reporting cubes that are delivered with Dynamics AX 2012 are great. A lot of effort has been put into building a lot of information for the users to report from, including pre-built hierarchy’s for drill downs. For example, when creating a report showing the product names, the product numbers are built into the hierarchy, and can be shown directly below it. Although sometimes that can get in the way, and make the reports look a little untidy. In this example we will show how you can extend out the existing data cubes that are delivered with Dynamics AX 2012 to add more reporting information, for you own personal dashboards, and as a result, make your reports look a little neater. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...ube-structures Keywords: #DynamicsAX 11 Creating a Dynamics AX BOM from Scratch Lately I have been spending a lot of time delving into the manufacturing module within Dynamics AX 2012, so I thought that it might be useful to create a worked example to showing the full lifecycle of production by defining a bill of material, and then use it within a production job to consume inventory and create finished goods. In this example, I thought that I would go back to my New Zealand roots, and use the traditional recipe for a Hangi as the example. Yumm. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...m-from-scratch Keywords: #DynamicsAX 12 Creating BI Dashboards for Dynamics AX Using PerformancePoint PerformancePoint is a fantastic tool for creating SharePoint Dashboards. In this quick example we will show how you can use it to quickly create BI dashboards for Dynamics AX 2012. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...formance-point Keywords: #BI #DynamicsAX #SharePoint #PerformancePoint 13 Creating Custom Dynamics AX Reports With MSSQL Report Builder SQL Server 2008 R2 has a great in-built report writer that allows you to not only modify the pre-built reports delivered with Dynamics AX 2012, but also create your own reports. In this walkthrough we will show how you can use the Report Builder 3.0 to create a simple dashboard using the cubes that are delivered with the standard Dynamics AX 2012 installation. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...report-builder Keywords: #DynamicsAX #SQLServer 14 Using SharePoint For Project Collaboration in Dynamics AX Dynamics Ax 2012 has enhanced integration with SharePoint 2010. One example is within the Project Management module, you are able to create workspaces within SharePoint to store project related tasks and documentation. In this worked example we will show how to configure the collaboration portal within SharePoint, how to link it to Dynamics AX, and how it works. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...-collaboration Keywords: #Collaboration #DynamicsAX #SharePoint 15 Synchronizing Dynamics AX with Microsoft Outlook One of the benefits of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 is its integration capabilities with all of the other Microsoft products. For example, you can easily set up your system to synchronize contacts, tasks and appointments from AX over to Outlook so that you have it while you are on the go. In this example we will show how you can flag contacts to be synchronized and also set up the synchronization between your Dynamics AX 2012 client and Outlook. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...2-with-outlook Keywords: #DynamicsAX 16 Creating Dynamics AX Reports In Word With Dynamics AX 2012, there is added integration into the Office suite of applications. One feature is the ability to access Dynamics AX data directly from Word. In this worked example we will show how you can configure data for sharing with Office applications, and then we will create a quick report just using Word – an application that everyone should be very familiar with. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...eports-in-word Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Office #Word 17 Embedding Dynamics AX Data In PowerPoint Since we are able to access Dynamics AX data directly from Excel, then why shouldn’t you use it within PowerPoint so that you can save time manually cutting and pasting your graph data like you have probably done in the past. In this example we will show how you can create dynamic presentations in PowerPoint that accesses data directly from Dynamics AX 2012 using the new Office integration tabs. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...-in-powerpoint Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Office #Excel 18 Creating BI Dashboards for Dynamics AX Using Visio Services One of the new features in Visio 2010 is the ability to create data driven diagrams and dashboards, and post them directly to SharePoint repositories for everyone to access. This opens up a new BI tool for the users to take advantage of. In this example we will show how you can use Visio to create these Pivot Diagrams. It’s pretty darn cool. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...visio-services Keywords: #BI #DynamicsAX #SharePoint 19 Creating Consolidated User Menus in Dynamics AX People wear a number of different hats in the organization, and usually need to access a number of different modules within Dynamics AX. Also, people usually don’t need access to all of the menu items that are available within the individual modules. Wouldn’t it be nice if all of the menu items that a user used on a daily basis were available in just one menu? In this worked example we will show how you can easily create a consolidated user menu for your users with just the menu items that they needs. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX 20 Creating Decomposition Trees in PerformancePoint PerformancePoint has a new analysis tool called a Decomposition Tree, and it is pretty cool. It allows you to drill from your dashboards directly into an analysis tree. From here you are able to expand your data on any of the measures that are defined on the analysis cube to see what is making up the data. In this example we will quickly show how you can use this in a real example to analyze data. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...rformancepoint Keywords: #PerformancePoint 21 Submitting Expense Reports Through The Dynamics AX Employee Services Portal The Employee Services portal is a simplified way for the employees to access Dynamics AX 2012 without having to have a full client installed on their desktop. All they need is a web browser. In this example we will show how the Employee Services portal can be used for a common task of expense report creation and how the expense report flows through the approval process. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...ervices-portal Keywords: #DynamicsAX 22 Embedding SharePoint into Dynamics AX Forms SharePoint is a great tool for managing documents, because it allows you to index the files any way that you like and add as much metadata ad you like to the documents. The only thing better than accessing documents through SharePoint would be to embed SharePoint directly in the Dynamics AX screens so that related documents are delivered directly to the users rather than having to search for them separately. In this example we will show how you can easily extend out Dynamics AX 2012 to have embedded views from the transaction screens to SharePoint to save users a couple of clicks. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...-ax-2012-forms Keywords: #DynamicsAX #SharePoint 23 Adding Twitter Searches to Dynamics AX Role Centers Twitter is a great tool for research. I use it all the time to find new postings on topics that may be useful in my job. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just have your Twitter searches sent directly to your role center so you don’t have to open up Twitter separately? In this example we will show how you can easily embed tour favorite Twitter streams into Role Centers in Dynamics AX 2012, making life just a little easier. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...2-role-centers Keywords: #RoleCenters #Twitter #DynamicsAX #Search 24 Configuring MySite Sites in SharePoint 2010 SharePoint has a great feature for the users called MySites. This allows users to have their own personal SharePoint portal that they can collaborate through, and also post their own blogs and personal files to. In this walkthrough we will show how to set up and configure the mysites application on SharePoint 2010, and also how to configure and customize the profiles. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...t-mysite-sites Keywords: #SharePoint 25 Using SharePoint Wikis In Dynamics AX For Collaborative Knowledge Management A Wiki is a great way to store all of the unstructured knowledge and data that is lurking within the organization, because it allows everyone to contribute to the knowledgebase with just a couple of mouse clicks. In this worked example we will show how easy it is to create a Wiki for product information, and then integrate it into Dynamics AX to help your users with information sharing. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...tive-knowledge Keywords: #DynamicsAX #SharePoint 26 Creating Cues in Dynamics AX when the Option Is Not Available Cues are great ways to organize your workspace, and are easy to create in all of the new Dynamics AX 2012 forms. But what if you still have some of the old style forms, and you want to create a cue for them (you may notice that there is now option available to do that). Don’t worry – there is a way to do that, it just takes a couple more steps. In this worked example we will show you the back door option. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...-not-available Keywords: #DynamicsAX 27 Using Wild Cards in Dynamics AX Filters Sometimes you don’t want to see all of your data, so you want to be able to filter. Simple filtering and searching is good for ad-hoc querying, but you can do so much more if you use some of the filter wildcards. In this worked example we will show how you can refine your selections to just the information that you want through these special filter functions. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...x-2012-filters Keywords: 28 Creating Dynamics AX Data Entry Forms with InfoPath InfoPath is a great tool available in the Office Suite that allows you to quickly create form templates for the users to enter data. It also has the option to get and update data through web services. Unfortunately the web services that are created by Dynamics AX are not recognized by InfoPath, making it hard to take advantage of this feature. In this example we will show how you can easily create a Web Service wrapper around the services provided by Dynamics AX so that you can create data entry forms through InfoPath. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...-with-infopath Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Office #InfoPath 29 Enabling Lync Presence Integration in Dynamics AX If you haven’t used Lync yet, then you are not one of the cool kids any more. As a unified communicator for the company Lync is great, allowing you to IM, call, video conference, and share desktops at the click of a button. Also you can immediately see if people are available to collaborate with. Dynamics AX 2012 takes advantage of that by allowing you to integrate the presence features directly into the client application so if you have business questions that need to be answered immediately, you can start the conversation without leaving the Dynamics AX client. The following walkthrough shows how you can configure the Lync integration. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Lync 30 Configuring Customer Self Service Portals In Dynamics AX The Customer Self Service Portal is a great way for you to get your customers to work for you. Rather than them calling up and asking you questions about invoices, orders, you can give them a login for the Self Service website and they can find that information themselves. Rather than having the customers call you and place orders over the phone, or having them fax in orders and you transcribe them, you can have them log in and place their own orders. In this walkthrough we will show how you can configure a customer login for the Customer Self Service website, and also configure the product catalogs so that they can place orders on-line. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Portals 31 Creating An Analysis Services Cube For Dynamics AX in AOT Who says that you need to be a Data Warehousing guru in order to create new reporting cubes for Dynamics AX. Not me (any more). The following walkthrough is completely plagiarized of the following Microsoft TechNet article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc622026.aspx and shows how easy it is to create your own reporting cubes against the AX 2012 database, without even setting foot in MSSQL Enterprise Manager, or BIDS. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...ax-2012-in-aot Keywords: #BI #DynamicsAX 32 Creating Dynamics AX Interfaces with Microsoft LightSwitch LightSwitch is a cool new development platform from Microsoft that you can use to create Silverlight applications with little to no programming effort. In this example we will show how you can use LightSwitch to create a simple client application for Dynamics AX that you could deploy out to casual users of the system. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...ft-lightswitch Keywords: #DynamicsAX #LightSwitch 33 Enabling Electronic Signatures in Dynamics AX Electronic Signatures are an extra level of security that you can place on any data transaction in the system. Before the transactions are committed the users need to verify their identity through their signature password. This is especially useful when using shared workstations, that you want to ensure that the proper people are performing transactions. In this worked example we will show the steps that you need to follow in order to enable and use Electronic Signatures. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX 34 Adding Scheduled Payment Dates To Dynamics AX Invoice Transactions One of the strengths of the Dynamics AX platform is how easy it is for the administrators to extend out the database and UI to suit the company’s needs, without impacting the upgradability of the system. In this worked example we will go through a simple example of changing the system, where we will add a new field to the invoice transactions table for a Scheduled Payment Date (the date that we will really pay the invoice), add the field to some of the forms, and then use it in the Payment Proposal process as a selection criteria. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #UI #DynamicsAX 35 Adding Images to Dynamics AX PowerView Dashboards PowerView is so cool. One of the built in features is the ability to create your own data from the base query that you run, and that data may be images rather than the traditional data types. In this worked example we will show how you can spice up your dashboards using your own custom images in order to make the dashboard a little bit more intuitive. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...iew-dashboards Keywords: #DynamicsAX #PowerView 36 Creating Dynamics AX PowerView Dashboards PowerView is a new extension to the PowerPivot functionality that is available with Microsoft SQL Server 2012. It allows users to create much richer views and dashboards. In this quick example we will show how you can create simple PowerView dashboards that are fed directly from your Dynamics AX database. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...iew-dashboards Keywords: #DynamicsAX #SQLServer #PowerView 37 Embedding Dynamics AX PowerView Views into PowerPoint PowerView just gets better and better. You have the ability to export your PowerView dashboards to PowerPoint, and embed them in your presentations. These aren’t your normal static views though, they are fully interactive, and have the same drill down capabilities that are available in the normal dashboards. In this quick example we will show how easy it is to export the views out of PowerView and embed them into your own presentations to give them an extra bit of coolness. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...nto-powerpoint Keywords: #DynamicsAX #PowerView 38 Using InfoPath To Create Dynamics AX Knowledge Base Articles InfoPath is one of the best, least known products from the Microsoft Office suite. If you want to create a form for people to fill out, ditch Word and Excel, because this is so much easier to use and it integrates into SharePoint allowing you to use it to create knowledgebases for everyone to update and access. In this walkthrough we will show how to create an InfoPath form to manage semi-structured data (like consumer recipes) and then store them in SharePoint so that you can start archiving and searching through them. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...-base-articles Keywords: #DynamicsAX #SharePoint #Office #Word #Excel #InfoPath 39 Embedding PowerView Dashboards in Dynamics AX Menus PowerView is a great tool for giving the users interactive analytics. Wouldn’t it be nice though if the users were able to open up the views directly from the AX client rather than having to go to another browser? In this worked example we will show a quick and easy modification that will allow you to embed PowerViews in the AX client. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX #PowerView 40 Creating Micro Blogs With SharePoint MySites SharePoint MySites are a great way for employees to have their own personal micro site for storing documents, notes and other information about themselves. For the more adventurous employees through, they are also able to publish their own blogs there for the other employees in the company to follow. These could be knowledge base articles, trials and tribulations with customers or vendors, or just fun stories. The good thing about these blogs are that they are only visible to the internal employees, and also it is a good way for companies to capitalize on today’s social media frenzy. In this quick walkthrough I will show how you users are able to set up a blog and start posting in a matter of minutes. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...-point-mysites Keywords: #SharePoint 41 Using Product Attributes In Dynamics AX To Record Nutritional Information Product Attributes are a new addition to Dynamics AX 2012, and are a simple way to store additional product characteristics without having to create new tables and fields in the database. In this worked example I will show how you can use these product attributes to store information like product nutritional information. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...rmation-part-1 Keywords: #DynamicsAX 42 Creating Custom Help Providers For Dynamics AX Help is a great tool, but the standard Dynamics help does not include any of the company specific knowledge, because you are the only one that knows that. In this worked example we will show how you can extend out the help system quickly and easily to include your companies own instructions and content so that the users have one place to search when they get stuck. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX 43 Using Requests For Quotations In Dynamics AX To Automate Vendor Bidding The Vendor Portal is a great tool that allows you to streamline purchasing processes, and also get the vendor to update information pertaining to them. Not only does this reduce the workload on the purchasing group, but it also improves data accuracy since there is no chance for miskeying information as it’s being transcribed. In this worked example, we will show how you can use the vendor portal and the Request For Quotation function to streamline the vendor bidding process. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...dding-14378077 Keywords: #DynamicsAX 44 Creating Automatic Sales Order E-mail Confirmations in Dynamics AX Automating e-mail communication is a great way to streamline your business processed. One example of doing this would be to have sales order confirmations sent out when they are approved within the ERP system. You can do this through workflows if you want, but in this example we will show how you can add a small function to Dynamics AX that will automatically send the confirmations through your local SMTP server, without the user having to even touch their e-mail system. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX 45 Using Cases to Track Quality Issues and Complaints in Dynamics AX Cases within Dynamics AX 2012 are a great way to track issues and complaints throughout the organization. Case management may be linked to prospects, customers, vendors, products, transactions and more, and incorporate activities, process management and workflow capabilities. In this worked example we will show how you can use cases to track consumer complaints. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Cases 46 Accessing Dynamics AX Records Through Hyperlinks Dynamics has a feature that allows forms to be opened through a dynamics:// url. This is a very cool feature because it allows you to send e-mails, or create reports that have links embedded in them that will then open up the ERP application. In this example we will take a look at this feature and show how you can use this technique to open up forms through hyperlinks, extending the use of Dynamics AX outside of the 4 borders of the application. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...ugh-hyperlinks Keywords: #DynamicsAX 47 Using Enterprise Search to Unite Your Dynamics AX Data The Enterprise Search feature within Dynamics AX 2012 is a great way to find things quickly and easily. You will never lose any data again once you start using it. In this worked example we will show how you can use the Enterprise Search to find the information stored away in the ERP, regardless of where you have put it. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-data Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Search 48 Embedding PowerView Dashboards into Microsoft Dynamics AX Role Centers PowerView is great for creating quick ad-hoc reports, but up until now I have not been able to use any of the reports that it creates within the Role Centers like you can do with PerformancePoint charts. After browsing through “Inside Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012″ I found a small section of information that shows how to do that. So in this quick walkthrough we will show how easy it is to publish your PowerView dashboards to the role centers so that everybody is able to experience them. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...2-role-centers Keywords: #RoleCenters #DynamicsAX #PerformancePoint #PowerView 49 Using Forecast Models to Create Demand Forecasts in Dynamics AX If you are not the fly by the seat of your pants type, that just waits for orders to come in and then try to work out how to supply the customer, then you probably will want to set up demand forecasts. In this quick worked example we will show some of the options that you have for modeling and using your forecasts within Dynamics AX 2012. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX 50 Using Cases In Dynamics AX to Manage New Product Development Although Dynamics AX is not a complete new product development and formulation system since it does not calculate nutritional details, or perform least cost formulation, it does allow you to manage all of your product, costs, formulations, nutritional detailed etc. Additionally it has a lot of capabilities to help you manage the NPD and NPI process so that the process is a lot smoother. In this example, I will show an example of how you can use Cases, Workflow, and Projects within Dynamics AX to manage all of the New Product Development/Introduction process. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...ct-development Keywords: #Development #DynamicsAX #Workflow #Projects #Cases 51 Dissecting Dynamics AX Role Centers Wouldn’t it be nice to come into work in the morning, open up Dynamics AX, and see everything that you could possibly want to see in one place. It may seem like a pipe dream, but not really. Dynamics AX has a feature called the Role Center that will do this and more for you, without even breaking a sweat. In this walkthrough we will give you an overview of the Role Centers, how you can tweak the standard ones that come out of the box, and also how you can add additional features that may make your life a little easier. In this short walkthrough we will show you how you can quickly create a simple Windows 8 application written in HTML5 that will allow you to do that, and it’s really not that hard… Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...or-dynamics-ax Keywords: #DynamicsAX 53 Retrieving and Publishing a Budget Through Excel The Excel add-in for Dynamics AX is a great tool for getting data from AX into Excel for reporting and analysis. But if you set up your document services the right way then it becomes more useful by allowing you to publish data back into AX directly from the Excel spreadsheet. A while ago I came across a blog post by Becky Newell on Importing a Budget via the Excel Add-in and thought that it would be a good exercise to recreate her example, and get it working for myself. Bus sometimes you may find that there is information in Dynamics AX that is not available through the standard Enterprise Portal controls. In this worked example we will show how you can easily create your own custom user data controls for Dynamics AX that you can add to existing SharePoint portals, and also to Role Centers to add that last bit of information that you may want to see. And all without a single line of code. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...rprise-portals Keywords: #RoleCenters #DynamicsAX #SharePoint #Portals 55 Creating & Executing Questionnaires in Dynamics AX Questionnaires are a great way to gather information, and Dynamics AX 2012 has a great feature that allows you to create your own questionnaire formats for employees, vendors, and customers that can either be filled out through the self service applications, or delivered by an agent such as a CSR in conjunction with call lists. In this example we will show one of the ways that questionnaires can be used, and create an employee questionnaire to weed out some troublesome individuals. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...namics-ax-2012 Keywords: #DynamicsAX 56 Dynamics AX Integration with the Microsoft Suite Dynamics AX 2012 is a great ERP system, and you probably don’t think that it could get any better. But it can, because Dynamics AX leverages all of the other products within the Microsoft suite of products to extend the application outside of what the traditional ERP systems are able to do natively. In this overview we will show some of the ways that Dynamics AX 2012 leverages these products, and how you will be able to take advantage of them as well. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...icrosoft-suite Keywords: #DynamicsAX 57 Creating Custom User Role Centers in Dynamics AX Dynamics AX comes pre-packaged with over 40 standard role centers for a lot of the normal user types that you would expect to see within an organization – CFO, Salesperson, AP Clerk, etc. But what if you have unique roles within your organization that don’t fit the standard roles. Wouldn’t it be nice to create your own? In the following walk through we will show you how to do just that. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...r-role-centers Keywords: #RoleCenters #DynamicsAX 58 Setting up a Dynamics AX Retail Store with POS Dynamics AX 2012 now has a retail module that includes store management, and also the ability to set up Retail Point of Sales (POS) terminals to take orders, manage store inventory and also track customers. It may seem a little bit daunting to set up, but it’s really not that hard. In this walkthrough we will go through all of the steps that are required for you to set up your first retail store and then configure the POS register so that you can take orders through the touch screens. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...store-with-pos Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Retail #POS 59 Using RSS Feeds As PowerView Data Sources A lot of social media and search sites have the option to output the results as RSS feeds as well as the normal human readable version. PowerPivot has the option to use XML feeds as the source for its’ data sources. It just makes sense to marry the two features together and create PowerView dashboards that summarizes the live feeds so that we can start analyzing the searches that we are interested in. In this walkthrough will show you how easy that is to do. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...w-data-sources Keywords: #PowerView 60 Storing Dynamics AX Document Attachments Within SharePoint With the release of Dynamics AX 2012 R2, a new document location type is available for the Document Types which allows you to archive files to SharePoint rather than to the usual network file locations. This is a much better place to store files since you can add metadata to the uploaded files, and also you can add features like version control and document security around the files. In this example we will show how you can create a new document type that stores it’s attached files within SharePoint. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...hin-sharepoint Keywords: #DynamicsAX #SharePoint #DocumentAttachments 61 Using Print Management in Dynamics AX to Manage Forms The Print Management feature within Dynamics AX does a lot more than just allow you to print reports. It also allows you to e-mail reports, automatically print and distribute forms, and also have custom form versions by customer & vendor. In this walkthrough we will show some of the different options available to you and also how to configure them within Dynamics AX. One case in point is that there are over 99 different languages within Faerûn that I needed to load into the HR module. Although loading the data by hand is possible, I wanted to find a better way to get the information loaded. In this walkthrough I will show how I used the Excel Add-In for Dynamics AX to make the this process a matter of cutting and pasting. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...in-dynamics-ax Walkthrough: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...es-walkthrough Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Excel #ExcelAdd-In 68 Using Excel to Import Products & Services into Dynamics AX At this point in my GuygAX project (a.k.a. implementing Dungeons & Dragons within ERP), I am working on loading all of the reference products and services into my system so that I can start stocking my shelves and selling services to my NPC’s. This is no small feat, since the initial load has more than 2000 different items. Rather than load all of the data by hand, I decided to use the Excel Add-In and create a import template for loading all of the products and services. Since there are multiple tables that need to be loaded with this example, it is a little more work to create the initial template, bus once it is up and built, it is a great time saver when loading in base and incremental data. In this walkthrough I will show how to use the Excel Add-In for Dynamics AX to create and use an Excel Product Import Template. Something that would make the process easier would be a mass load of data from a template. In this worked example we will show how you can do just that with the Dynamics Excel Add-In, by using it to query the tables in one company and then update the data in another without even breaking a sweat. Presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...any-to-another Walkthrough: http://www.slideshare.net/murrayfife...ax-walkthrough Keywords: #DynamicsAX #Excel #ExcelAdd-In 70 Using Excel to Import Customers & Vendors into Dynamics AX At this point in my GuygAX project (a.k.a. implementing Dungeons & Dragons within ERP), I have been configuring all of my merchants and customers. Doing this by hand would take forever, so I decided to use the Excel Add-In make the loading of the records a little easier. This process is not quite as simple as loading a table, because all of the contact information is initially stored within the Global Address book, and the tables that you update are slightly different depending on if you are creating an organization, or a person, but once we got the hang of it, importing became a breeze. In this walkthrough I will show how to use the Excel Add-In for Dynamics AX to create a template that you can use to easily import customer and vendor records. Although you could reuse one of the existing electronic contact types, it would be much better if you could have a dedicated contact type just for Twitter so that you can segregate out the data for reporting and analysis. In this worked example I will show you how you can easily add a new contact type to Dynamics AX for Twitter, and also any other Social Media type that you may want to track. Their customers are actually sales people, and they did not want to have more than one customer per 10000 people within the local zip code or surrounding area. In this worked example I will show how I used the new suite of Power BI tools (Power Query, Power Pivot, PowerView & Power Map) to allow them to analyze this information in a simple, and also very cool way. I have to admit, I think this is very cool, and is pretty easy to set up. In this worked example I will show you how you can create a simple set of Lean Manufacturing processes and see them in in action. Service Management has additional functions as well that allow you to track the items that are being serviced, define the tasks that are allowed to be performed against a service order, and also track the symptoms, diagnosis, and resolution to service order issues, making it a great tracking and analysis tool. In this walkthrough we will show how you can create service agreements and orders, and then how you can use the additional tracking features within Service Management to get a tighter handle on your service orders. This is great when you are receiving in products into a distribution center and then redistributing the stock. But what if you are a more traditional organization that needs to cross dock inventory to other non-retail locations? In this worked example we will show you how you can still use the cross docking function within Dynamics AX without having to implement all of the retail module in the process.
